Hi there, my name is Nika. I graduated with Distinction from UC Berkeley with a Bachelor's in English literature. I have been tutoring for over 8 years and I believe deeply in the idea that with the right tools, everyone is able to reach their full potential. I have tutored all ages across many different subjects - from students as young as 4 transitioning into Kindergarten to older adults needing help with reading literacy. Most recently, I've worked specifically in reading programs that implement sensory-cognitive instruction, focused on reading/writing and math. This was also with students of different ages, but primarily with those in elementary and middle school. I enjoy teaching and have been fortunate enough to be around teachers and mentors who feel as passionate as I do. I hope to take that passion and share it with every student I work with.

I also love learning and am always trying to teach myself something new; most recently I’ve been learning to crochet and trying to pick up a new language.

I've worked primarily in pre algebra/ algebra to help determine what branch of math best suits the student progressing forward. Greetings!  My name is Jamie, and I have taught students of all ages, mostly K-5, in subjects ranging from SAT analogies to yogic breathing techniques.  My specialties include reading comprehension, grammar, and writing.  As a clinical intern, I often worked to support children struggling both academically and socially, and my pedagogical philosophies are deeply informed by those experiences.  I see teaching as a collaborative, holistic process tailored to individual learning styles, needs and aptitudes, and psychological development.  Confidence is often the largest barrier when students are grappling with unfamiliar or challenging material.  I believe that providing the right encouragement can really boost feelings of self-efficacy and foster renewed excitement about learning.  In my spare time, I enjoy practicing yoga, playing around on the drums, strengthening culinary muscles, and reading science fiction novels.

Hello, My name is Oscar. I have a BA in Mathematics with a focus on Education from UC Santa Cruz. I have been tutoring for well over 8 years, mainly math subjects, but also some high school Spanish and K-5 ELA. I have tutored K-12, as well as college students and adult learners. I also have many years experience tutoring students with learning "disabilities", including dyslexia, ADD, etc. The majority of my students have been in Middle and High School math, including Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry and Pre-Calculus. I have some experience tutoring Calculus but it was many years ago. This school year I will be tutoring a high school Calculus student (whom I tutored in Pre Calc over the summer) and so will be more ready to take on other Calculus students if need be. Hello, my name is Priscilla and I come from Madrid, Spain. I got my bachelor’s degree from the University of Dayton in Ohio and my master’s degree from the Polytechnic University of Madrid in Spain. One of my goals in life was to be an educator, so although I studied Business Administration, I decided to direct my professional path towards the Educational area. I began my career as a university professor at the Universidad del Sagrado Corazón in San Juan, Puerto Rico, where I lived for several years. At that time, I taught courses such as Business Administration, International Business, Marketing, Strategic Planning and Consumer Behavior among others. In addition, I contributed to the university with the creation of a Master’s degree with a specialization in Marketing. After this amazing experience, I decided to return to Madrid and started a career as a Spanish and English teacher. For the last 14 years, I have been teaching children from 5 to 18 years old and it has been one of the most satisfying experiences of my life. I love working with children and enjoy sharing my knowledge with them. When I teach, I use fun techniques like role-play, dialogue, language games, literature, film, and other formal exercises. We work with grammar, spelling, pronunciation, vocabulary and composition. Hello, my name is Arash (AKA Sam) and I have tutored student from ages 14 and up. I have tutored college students in Math for over 3.5 years. I’ve obtained my Associates Degree in Mathematics. As a UCLA Physiological Science graduate, my area of expertise is in the field of biology, environmental sciences, ecology, chemistry, physics, and any other general science fields. Additionally, years of reading complex scientific text, as well as humanities and English coursework, have helped me develop excellent reading comprehension skills, which I can relay to students. My tutoring experience stems from when I assisted my high school chemistry teacher as she taught middle school general sciences. Fran obtained a Master’s Degree in Education from Pepperdine University on top of her bachelor’s degree in Math-Statistics. She has taught middle school science as well as Advanced Placement Computer Science. Fran taught for many years in the Los Angeles Unified School District. The last eighteen years, she taught and tutored at John F. Kennedy High School in Granada Hills. Fran won the Los Angeles Teacher Excellence in Education Award in 1999 and has earned several other recognitions in Education. Fran believes it is her mission to help everyone understand and begin to love math. She strives to build a relationship of trust and mutual respect with the families of the students she is mentoring / tutoring.  Fran loves to travel and has experienced life in several countries on four different continents.
