My name is Emma N. and I’m currently a senior at University of California, Los Angeles studying Applied Mathematics. I will be graduating in the Spring. I have extensive experience tutoring K-12 mathematics one-to-one in person. I’m was a teacher assistant at Lancaster High School for geometry during the school year of 2018; as well as tutoring my peers after school in Calculus I. I’m very confident in teaching Algebra, Geometry and Calculus. 
Mathematics didn’t come naturally to me. I grew up struggling with the subject but everything changed when I met the right teacher who understood such struggles and helped reach where I am today. I was once a scared and confused child when it came to studying Mathematics. Then, I learned that there’s more than one way to understand the problem that works uniquely for each student.

I have been teaching for over 35 years as an Early Childhood educator. I taught Kindergarten and 1st grade for LAUSD for 8 years, and spent the last 22 years at Temple Isaiah Preschool as a Pre-K teacher. I am also a California State Mentor Teacher, and have trained college students to become teachers in Early Childhood. Needless to say, my passion is guiding children to find the joy in learning using a variety of methods according to individual needs. I incorporate hands-on activities, movement, stories, music, and written activities to engage children in a way that is meaningful to them. As the need for virtual learning has increased, I’m incorporating many new platforms to enhance children’s remote learning. I look forward to facilitating your child’s learning experience.

My name is Mariya and I teach students from Pre-K to 7th grade. I studied at HAU in Athens and Saint Michael’s College in Burlington, Vermont. I have worked for ICES, an after school tutoring program, in several school districts in the Los Angeles and Long Beach areas. I have many years of experience working with various tutoring companies in helping students improve their grades and gain confidence in their learning. I am fluent in Greek, Bulgarian and Spanish. I also teach Greek.

I am very motivated to equip young minds to learn more about the academic world, introducing them to mathematics and English Arts. Equally important to convey are life skills including treating others with respect, working in teams and learning how to be fit and healthy. To encourage my students in their learning I have devised some games and assessment sheets and have prepared my own lessons. I have worked with students with ADHD, Autism and Dyslexia. This opportunity has been particularly rewarding, enabling me to gain a broader perspective on experiences of primary school, give extra support and learn new behaviour management strategies.

My outside interests include tennis playing and hiking; both would potentially contribute to school life. Friends and family tell me I am empathetic, caring and dynamic, particularly suited to teaching the primary age. As a reflective and enthusiastic practitioner I am dedicated to enabling young minds to develop and achieve.

Jacquelyn is a veteran educator of twenty-four years. Currently she teaches English Language Arts and Ancient World History for a large school district in Southern California. At the core of Jacquelyn’s educational paradigm is teaching with equity and building relationships with students and families and to always believe in the art of educating with fun. During the current pandemic her career required the use of digital pedagogy or teaching with loads of technology and the use of social emotional learning methods to reach and engage students. After earning a graduate degree in education and a teaching credential from Pepperdine University’s Graduate School of Education and Psychology, Jacquelyn began her career in education teaching elementary school in Los Angeles. Shortly after she homeschooled her own three children and tutored others in the homeschool community. Another opportunity arose to teach science with Biola Star Academics, a homeschool co-op affiliated with Biola University. Ms. Faulcon taught and supervised teachers with the Biola University School of Education and now teaches in Long Beach Unified School District. Hello, my name is Arash (AKA Sam) and I have tutored student from ages 14 and up. I have tutored college students in Math for over 3.5 years. I’ve obtained my Associates Degree in Mathematics. I have tutored students from pre-algebra to differential equations. Through my years of tutoring, I’ve learned everybody has their own way of understanding mathematics. From analogies to games of memorization I’ve came up with different teaching formats that have helped each student understand the subject they need to learn. Some students need every step broken down for them and some students just need a particular method that puts all the steps of problem solving into one. Over the years I have interacted with thousands of students with different personalities and love to help others achieve their goals in life.

Greetings!  My name is Jamie, and I have taught students of all ages, mostly K-5, in subjects ranging from SAT analogies to yogic breathing techniques.  My specialties include reading comprehension, grammar, and writing.  As a clinical intern, I often worked to support children struggling both academically and socially, and my pedagogical philosophies are deeply informed by those experiences.  I see teaching as a collaborative, holistic process tailored to individual learning styles, needs and aptitudes, and psychological development.  Confidence is often the largest barrier when students are grappling with unfamiliar or challenging material.  I believe that providing the right encouragement can really boost feelings of self-efficacy and foster renewed excitement about learning.  In my spare time, I enjoy practicing yoga, playing around on the drums, strengthening culinary muscles, and reading science fiction novels.
